Fabulous tips on flooring selection and maintenance

In case you haven't met us yet . . . . we're the first to admit we're a bit different, but we are completely passionate about carpet & flooring and ensuring we sell you the right product for your needs.

We are here to help and below we have some tips on the process of selecting the right carpet for your needs as well as general cleaning and maintenance.

Your flooring needs your love and attention and it's important to understand caring for your product immediately after instillation is different from long term care or when accidents occur (oops...the red wine).

THE PROCESS

Steps 1-7 in the flooring selection process

WHERE DO I START?

Buying flooring can be very overwhelming, so where do you start?

Look through some magazines or surf the internet.

This will help you come up with a general colour theme and/or textures you are attracted to.

Then follow the steps below:

1) Email us to make an appointment.

It’s great if you can include a rough idea of sizes or a floorplan.

2) Bring your magazines, mood board or pictures with you.

3) We'll ask questions to ascertain your needs and budget and then provide you with options and send you home with samples and time to think.

3) Drop the samples back in and when you are ready you can decide if you want to proceed.

4) We come and measure (for free) - then quote based on your preferences.

5) We order your flooring and coordinate installation when it arrives.

6) We install it - yay!

7) We follow up and send you everything you need to know about caring for your new flooring.

MAINTENANCE

How do I keep my newly installed carpet clean?

INITIAL MAINTENANCE

It is very important to vacuum your carpet thoroughly and frequently, particularly in high traffic areas to prolong the life and enhance the appearance of your carpet. Some carpets 'shed' to begin with, but then settle in.

GENERAL MAINTENANCE

After your carpet is installed, vacuum lightly and frequently in the first week and then at least weekly and more frequently in high traffic areas after that, especially if your furry friends are shedding their coat!

Give three passes for light soiled areas and five to seven passes for heavily soiled areas.

Vacuum first against the pile direction to help unsettle and remove dirt and grit to reduce matting.

When finishing, vacuum in the direction of the pile to achieve a uniform finish.

See our "Vaccuum" tab for further tips on types of vaccuums.

STEAM CLEANING YOUR CARPET

Depending on usage carpet should be professionally steam cleaned every 12-18 months.

Steam Cleaning should only be undertaken by a professional carpet cleaner who is a member of a professional association in accordance with Australian/New Zealand Standard AS/NZ 3733:1995.

Shampooing, do it yourself steam cleaning or dry cleaning are not recommended.

SPOT CLEANING YOUR CARPET

Prompt attention to spillages or stains is paramount to avoid the penetration of a stain into the carpet fibre.

Liquids (particularly hot liquids) must be attended to immediately. If allowed to cool or dry, the stain will be more difficult to remove.

Care must be taken as haphazard attempts at spot removal can cause permanent stain setting, pile distortion and loss of colour.

Exercise extreme care with all bleaches and chemical products as they can permanently discolour or dissolve carpets.

PROTECT YOUR CARPET

Place door mats at exterior doorways.

Use furniture coasters and chair pads under chairs with castors and occasionally rearrange furniture to alleviate pressure marks.

Use rugs to protect carpet in high traffic areas.

Protect carpet from prolonged periods of direct sunlight with curtains or blinds.
